On the Saturday of the Gala, the sky looked black and very threatening. I thought to my self, we are in BIG trouble.
The phone rang twice with anxious stallholders. “Are we having it inside?”.
Boldly I made a decision. “There is a small (very small ) patch of blue. It’s clearing”.
People started pouring in the gate and there was a frenzied hour of setting up for our first customers. Some stall holders had dressed for the occasion with plastic flowers and other objects hanging off their hats.
The queue for a sausage in bread was half way round the garden and some people, me included enjoyed a glass of wine or two, while others had a cup of tea and cake.
Lots of people wandered through the Beacon house and at the end of the afternoon we reckoned about 150 invited people had spent some money.
We made $2,270 and all collapsed on our settees that evening happy but knackered.
And guess what. It was a beautiful dry warm day !!!
