Book Launch Sucking on the Lemon of Life

IMG_0370.JPGOn Tuesday 2nd June at Elms House Hastings, our official book launch took place.  We did our own catering with huge basket platters of grapes, cheese and a selection of breads and dipping oils, with red and white wine to accompany it.

It is always a bit nerve wracking, h oping that you are not going to give your speech to half a dozen people.  It was great to see a wide slection of people within the health sector attend, plous some clients, their familys and friends of the Beacon.

The CEO Shaun Robinson gave a short opening speech, then it was my turn to talk about the why and how the book came into being. To finish an original poem, which touched many people, was read by Tony Hurrelbrinck.

We had a fine display of the "original" painting on the front cover of Sucking on the Lemon of Life on an easel plus a bowl of lemons which I thought was a fun touch and lots of books to sell.  Business was brisk and it was a great start to our aim to get the book to the people who need it in the community.

We have the TV programme Attitudes to come next.  It screens every Sunday at 10:00am on Channel One.  The film crew spent two days at the Beacon interviewing the clients featured in the book.  This is a popular programme and should generate lots of interest.  Our next step is to approach the local book shops and see if they will do a display for us.

So it's onwards and upwards with lots of exciting things to look forward to.
